Manager Spotlight: Hannah TW

17 April 2025

The manager spotlight offers a small insight into the heads of incredible managers. This week in the spotlight is Hannah TW!

How long have you worked in Management?

4 years give or take.

Who do you manage now?

Hinako Omori, and I co-manage TYSON with Marina Garvey Birch. Previously Joe Winter and Låpsley.

Where did you find your first client and what inspired you to take them on?

Tyson and I are old friends and co-founded a group called Ladies Music Pub 10 years ago in response to the misogyny we experienced early in our careers. It’s a group for women and GNC people to meet monthly; we also host workshops, panels and host stages at festivals (booking talent like Yazmin Lacey / Nala Sinephro / George Riley / Lea Sen / Florence Sinclair etc) it is a really strong community and we’ve done a lot of behind the scenes work to make the music industry safer. We released Tyson’s debut EP through LMP. Co-managing Tyson through LMP was a natural way to help my friend release her music and we’ve navigated a lot and evolved together. It’s been an absolute pleasure!

What does a good/bad day at work look like for you?

Good day- sun shining in soho/ listening to new music / going to a great gig / invoices getting paid / inspiring meetings / feeling useful and having good ideas and perspective.

Bad day – imposter syndrome / late invoices / haggling on email / too many b2b zooms / too much juggling / something as simple as someone not saying thank you.

What has been the highlight of your management career to date?

Being accepted onto the MMF Accelerator course.

What do you think are the big challenges for a manager in 2025?

Oof. Being a professional octopus. Getting a mortgage or paying 2025 rent. I think there is a lot of awareness of how difficult it is to be an early career musician and lots of discourse around the effect of streaming payment models. If you’re earning 20% of someone who isn’t earning much, then that’s obviously tough.

I’m often approached for advice by individuals—typically men—who earn significantly more than I do and want to have a chat or get advice. As a freelance consultant, this is what I do to earn a living alongside management. There’s often an expectation that I should offer my expertise freely, without acknowledgment of the time, energy, or value I bring. My time is limited, my experience hard-earned, and my insights are not a public resource. If you value my perspective, please respect it: hire me or acknowledge the labour in your request.

What did you gain from the Accelerator Programme?

Knowledge and confidence, but crucially a wonderful peer group that provides moral support. They just get it! The biggest value for me was being brought into contact with managers who I wouldn’t have met otherwise from all over the country, working in different genres but facing the same issues. We’ve stayed in touch.

Why would you recommend the MMF?

The community, the opportunities to keep learning, the feeling that someone has your back. I show the code of practice to anyone I might work with management wise as I think it’s important. When I entered the music industry as a marketing assistant I had so few role models who were women- thankfully that has changed. Amy Frenchum, Hannah Joseph and Jill Hollywood are amazing managers, some of whom I met through the MMF.

What music are you currently listening to?

New Tyson and Hinako demos. Im reading DJ Targets book, so lots of Pay As U Go Cartel. I read Tyson’s mum Neneh Cherry’s biography recently and loved it so much, highly highly recommend (Threads).
