Protected: Company Spotlight: Interland Music Management
Meet our newest Company members - Interland Music Management.
Can you tell us when and how your company was established? Who are the key members of the team?
Our company was set up in 2015 when founder Todd Interland left Elton John’s Rocket Music, where he had been CEO and a manager for many years. Interland Music was set up as an entrepreneurial solo venture at that time.
Could you share some information about the artists and creative talent currently on your roster?
The company’s premiere client since Day 1 has been James Blunt, who has been managed by Todd Interland since 2002. Also on the roster are two British indie bands, Bleach Lab and She’s In Parties, who were brought into the company by Emily Street, who is also a manager at Interland Music. The latest addition to the roster is singer/songwriter Freya Ridings, who has been releasing music since 2017, and is now co-managed by Todd and Emily.
How would you describe your company culture/ethos?
We look to represent clients who are in the game for the long-haul. The clients must have a commitment to making their life career in music. Our services are offered to our clients 24/7, and we endeavour to guide our clients through the ever-changing playing field of the music industry.
Tell us about your first major client and what inspired you to bring them on board?
James Blunt was our first client, and we took him on board as he showed great promise in his earliest songwriting when he was in the army. There was a spark with James from Day 1, and we jumped at the chance to work with him.
What criteria or factors do you consider when making decisions on which artists and talents to sign?
The most important factor for us is determining the artist’s work ethic, which can be difficult when you don’t know the artist at the beginning, but there are different signs you can look out for. Talent comes in many shapes and forms, but if the work ethic isn’t there, the talent may never be fully realised.
What unique strategies or approaches do you use to differentiate yourself in the competitive music management industry?
With the core team’s combined years in the industry (40+ years), we have managed an array of successful talent, and we believe that every client requires a bespoke approach to management. We will tailor our services to the artists’ unique needs, and adjust where necessary as things progress.
Do you offer any services or specialisms beyond your core management business?
As a small business, we have longstanding consultants who advise in business affairs, digital and social media management, and publishing.
What music are the team listening to at the moment?
At this moment, 3 of our 4 clients are currently recording their next projects which are nearing completion, and we’ve had our heads down listening to demos, new productions, and mixes. Our other client has just released her third album which has been playing in the office non-stop. In the off moments when we’re not listening to our artists, we often have BBC 6 Music on the go, as well as various other new music playlists from our trusted DSPs.
