Members Update from MMF Chief Exec Annabella

29 July 2016

Hi all,

We’re now well into the summer and finally a there’s a little bit of time to catch up and breathe… it’s been a busy year so far at the MMF. Our membership is growing rapidly we now have over 500 members and are organising an increasing number of events both educational and social. I really enjoyed meeting lots of you at the MMF BT Sports Day and Social, even though our team lost at rounders (congrats to Believe Digital).  We’ve produced a write up of the Sync debate for those of you who couldn’t make it which will go on MBW tomorrow and we’ll post in next week’s newsletter.

We have lots planned for the Autumn. Chris Cooks is currently writing up Dissecting the Digital Dollar Part 2 which will contain an overview of the contributions we heard at the industry and member Roundtables earlier this year about how streaming is licensed. Part 2 will also come to some conclusions and contain a call for action around the 7 issues in the report from creator renumeration to data and transparency. We will have an MMF Open Meeting to share the findings with members in Sept/Oct.

MMF was very involved in the creation and launch of the FanFair Alliance at Somerset House on 14th July. After years of inaction it now finally feels like the industry and government is prepared to act against industrialised touting which rips off fans and damages confidence in Live. We will be holding a Summit with our new associate SongKick to discuss these issues and launch a managers guide on how to keep tickets out of the hands of touts in September. If you haven’t yet signed the declaration you can do so here: http://www.fanfairalliance.org/declaration/.

We’re rescheduling the social with C.C. Panayi & Co. to September and will send more info soon. We also hope to keep doing the more informal managers drinks at a pub in Soho on Tuesday 23rd August (venue TBC) and our first ever MMF Tribes in partnership with MPG will take place in Birmingham on Wednesday 14th September (invitations will be sent out next week). We hope another new Tribe will launch soon in Liverpool. If you want to know more contact Charley@themmf.net.

If you didn’t spot it in yesterday’s newsletter the Artist and Manager Awards will be back better and bigger than ever at The Troxy in Limehouse on 24th November 2016. Save the date – member deals on tickets and how to book them will be available soon.

I’ll be at Reeperbahn in September. If you’re thinking of going the IMMF discount rate is €155, – and you can register at: registration@reeperbahnfestival.com and use the code “IMMF Discount”. If you do go let me know if you fancy meeting up whilst there. If there are enough of us I’ll organise an MMF gathering.

Finally, we’re currently reviewing our education programme and have a short survey to get your views on what you like most about our current offer (from induction day to evening courses to bespoke seminars) and what else we might introduce for our membership, please take 5 mins to contribute your thoughts: http://bit.ly/MMFEducation.

On that note have a great August and see you soon,

Annabella
