Spanish Music Business Pays the MMF and FAC a Visit

03 December 2013

Last week, the MMF welcomed Spanish music business elite to talk to members about opportunities in the Spanish music market. Spain is a country which has had a roller coaster ride over the past ten years but which provides many opportunities for artists and managers willing to adapt and learn.

Expertise covering key areas was shared by:

Niko Michault, Artist Manager, PUSH Management (Jack Savoretti)

Estanis Figueroa, Bookings/Promoter, Live Nation Spain & Hinode, (Muse, Coldplay, Madonna, DCode Fest, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand)

Jon Ayarza, International and National Tour production & independent record label, Four Elements (Janelle Monae, The Horrors, Gossip, Jakob Dylan)

Vanesa Garcia, Communications, press and online, Ipopyou (Texas, Kylie Minogue, DCode Fest, The Cranberries, Tinie Tempah, Emilie Sande, Lana Del Ray etc)

Miguel Angel Garrido, Booking & Management, Charco (Russian Red, Carla Morrison, Natalia Lafourcade, Babasonicos etc)

The panellists offered their knowledge and expertise in a market whose declining record industry has meant that the live sector is currently booming having been forced to innovate quickly.

With many labels dismissing Spain as a touring option, our panellists created positive discussions around alternative methods of breaking an artist. With insider knowledge on touring schedules, Jon talked about many hundreds of local festivals that can attract up to 5000 people who book UK acts.

Branding investment in music has also seen a massive increase in Spain, with some funding whole tours and festivals. Estanis with his background with Live Nation and current start up, Hinode, specialises in working with many Spanish brands to deliver successful tours. He said that ‘the most important thing with any gig or concert is that the artist walks away happy, so we do whatever we can to achieve that.’

Miguel who manages huge Spanish acts offered a market exchange to UK managers who want to get on big tours in Spain and Latin America. His network of Spanish and Latin American managers, Charco, offers many opportunities such as collaboration for UK artists.

In summary, Vanesa, Jon, Estanis and Miguel are great contacts to have who can put together bespoke packages and provide invaluable insights for artist managers. They have kindly permitted us to list their contact details here, please get in touch with them if you have any questions.
