Manager Spotlight: Marley Azu-Jones

15 August 2024

The manager spotlight offers a small insight into the heads of incredible managers. This week in the spotlight is Marley Azu-Jones!

How long have you worked in Management?

7 years.

Who do you manage now?

Fonzie, Felixthe1st and Mastaque.

Where did you find your first client and what inspired you to take them on?

My first client was my cousin Fonzie, so I guess we found each other!

He was already an artist and after a family trip in Jamaica, we were having a conversation where we were going back and forth on music related business and he was very confused as to why I knew so much about those behind the scenes and literally there and then said “You’re gonna be my manager” to which I replied “It doesn’t work like that”.

But I was most certainly wrong as after that holiday I fell into the role of his manager, and 2 sold out shows, 500K+ streams later I’m still doing it – so I guess it does work like that!

What does a good/bad day at work look like for you?

A good day is me waking up and having oxygen go through my lungs.

The bad days will never be one to dwell on as everything happens for a reason, so I wouldn’t be able to specify that.

What has been the highlight of your management career to date?

I would say getting Mastaque to become a full time artist – as of April 2023.

We simply set out a plan and have followed it through and stand on the mantra of “show & prove” – which has led to him being in a place where he’s doing five figure months and on the verge of a six figure year.

So, yeah that would certainly be one of many highlights, as it’s all been achieved without being the biggest fish in the pond but instead going left where many go right and in doing so creating the new standard – which I’m seeing many follow, which means we’ve done a good job in opening the doors across Europe and beyond!

What do you think are the big challenges for a manager in 2024?

Finding a way to tread through the noise.

There’s a lot going on in 2024 but you just need to remain on your path and avoid the noise.

Why would you recommend the MMF?

The MMF is the place to learn, network and develop yourself as a manager.

What did you gain from the Accelerator Programme?

A group of like-minded individuals that span an array of different genres – this is something money can’t buy as there’s no group like the Accelerator group.

What music are you currently listening to?

A mix of different sounds but some favourites right now are:

Fonzie x HandlesTDNB – Brochure
Izco x P Wavey – Beauty Inside
Rushy – LDN
